Title I Math

The goal of the Title I Math program is to provide supplemental math support for students in need of additional assistance. This support is provided by highly qualified math specialists via two different models.

The first model provides supplemental instruction during the grade levels' WIN block. The WIN ("What I Need") intervention block is a period of time during the school day when students in the grade level work on skills that need strengthening. This supplemental, thirty to forty-five minute block is in addition to students' regular math period. Typically, the focus of the group's instruction is number sense, as well as automaticity with math facts. The goal for this group is to strengthen foundational math skills in order to enable students to eventually understand more sophisticated math concepts, while feeling confident and successful.

The second model is implemented during the students' usual math period. These longer blocks last approximately 80 minutes. During this time, students receive the same lesson and activities as each student in the grade level. A significant difference is that students will receive one-on-one or small group instruction depending on their needs. Due to the group's small size, it is easier to closely monitor students' progress in order to administer any necessary supplemental instruction and support.

In both models, our specialized math instruction is provided through the cooperation of the classroom teacher and the Title I math teacher. Both teachers are in constant contact- continually analyzing student data and performance in order to effectively instruct and support each student. It is our goal to maximize every student's potential.
