What is Title I?

Title I, Part A, is intended to help ensure that all children have the opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach proficiency on challenging state academic standards and assessments. As the largest federal program supporting elementary and secondary education, Title I targets these resources to the districts and schools where the needs are greatest. Its purpose is to give extra money to schools and school districts that serve many low income and struggling students. The money must be used to improve academic achievement in basic subjects and engage families in the education of their children. Your child does not need to be in a low income family to qualify for Title I services.

Title I Schoolwide Program

Salisbury Elementary School is a Title I Schoolwide Program school. Through the Schoolwide Program, Title I resources and staff support the academic needs of all students, with a particular focus on students who may need additional support to meet grade-level standards.

Title I teachers work closely with classroom teachers to strengthen core instruction and provide targeted support within the classroom whenever possible. Through push-in services and co-teaching, Title I staff provide additional instructional opportunities, differentiate instruction, and respond to students’ learning needs. Targeted small-group instruction is also provided as needed to address specific skills. Student progress is monitored regularly, and instructional strategies and interventions are adjusted as needed based on student data.

Title I also supports family engagement and learning through workshops, presentations, resources, and other activities that strengthen the home-school partnership.

Title I funds supplement, rather than replace, the district’s core instructional resources. These additional resources strengthen Tier 1 instruction, provide targeted intervention, address learning needs, and help close achievement gaps so that all students have equitable access to high-quality instruction and opportunities to reach their full potential.
