Title I

What is Title I?ā€‹

Title I, Part A, is intended to help ensure that all children have the opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach proficiency on challenging state academic standards and assessments. As the largest federal program supporting elementary and secondary education, Title I targets these resources to the districts and schools where the needs are greatest. Its purpose is to give extra money to schools and school districts that serve many low income and struggling students. The money must be used to improve academic achievement in basic subjects and engage families in the education of their children. Your child does not need to be in a low income family to qualify for Title I services.

How are students selected and serviced within the Title I program?

Salisbury Elementary is designated as a schoolwide Title I school. Schoolwide programs serve all children in the school; all staff, resources and classes are part of the overall schoolwide program. A schoolwide program collects, analyzes, and uses data to continuously monitor student progress and improve teaching and learning for all students. Some students may need more time and more opportunities to practice to succeed. Title I funds support intervention services for those students who need additional reinforcement. These students will receive support within the classroom setting and/or within small intervention groups. Title I teachers use structured, systematic lessons geared towards the needs of each student. We want every student to feel empowered to be an active participant in their learning and feel recognized and valued for their accomplishments along the way.
